Top 5 Things to Do With Your Halloween Candy

This is what happens when you eat too much Halloween Candy:)

It’s Wednesday.  3 days past Halloween and you still have piles and piles of candy that your cute little ________ {insert cute costume name here} diligently collected  over the weekend.  They are now asking for a piece 75 times a day, are bouncing off the walls, and you are adding approximately 400 calories to your day by sneaking a Kit-Kat every couple of hours (if you are anything like me and have minimum self control when it comes to candy!).  Never fear – I have 5 handy tips to help you creatively use up that Halloween candy in no time!

Side Note:  In honor of Halloween, I have posted a picture of my favorite trick-or-treater – my niece Victoria.  My husband and I had the privilege of taking her trick-or-treating several years in a row and are now in a Halloween funk without her here (she moved back to Florida just after Halloween last year).  Love you Victoria!

Ok, on to the 5 Tips:

1.  Save the smallest treats (milk duds, lollipops, bubble-gum) and use them in your child’s Birthday gift bags!  If you are extra organized – put them into a large zip-lock baggie and label it _____’s Birthday Treats and you will have it ready to go when Birthday time comes around!

2.  Buy some mini-stockings, fill them up with the candy and some other little things (stickers, a little pack of crayons), and bring them to your local hospital’s childrens ward or Ronald McDonald House as a Christmas service project.

3.  Share the candy with those who don’t have kids and therefor weren’t on the receiving end of the candy overhaul.    Co-workers, grandparents, your babysitter – all are most likely very willing to take some of the candy off your hands!

4.  Your kids probably LOVE a trip to the local fire-station, right?  Well, make the next trip extra fun by having them make up a Thank-You card for the firefighters and bring them a bowl full of candy!

5.  Save it for the Holidays!  One of my favorite things to do is to use candy on gift-wrapping.  I tape a couple of colorful pieces of candy to each gift or tie them along with the ribbon.  And I also love to use candy when I bake!  A sugar cookie in the shape of a tree can be decorated with Dots, m&ms and more.  I also have it on good authority that Santa is always on the lookout for extra goodies to put in everyone’s stockings.:)

Wow!  This was my first blog post.  What a milestone!  Thanks for reading and feel free to post a comment if you have any other creative ideas for that Halloween candy!
